Video Shoot at the Ottawa Airport

Instead of a boring day in the office, I got to help out on a video production. My back kills but it was pretty fun, meet some great people and I learned a thing or two about what goes on behind the scenes.  "Van do you want to be a Grip for our video Shoot?" I said sure but I had to google what a Grip was. If you don't know, it is a miscellaneous equipment helper guy; holding lights and what not. I almost didn't bring my camera because I wasn't sure if I would have time to take some candids or if I was even allowed. As always, shoot first ask later is generally a good philosophy. Anyhow a  special thanks to Kevin and Mylene of Symphonic Filmworks for inviting me to participate. Maybe one day I will get to be a camera guy with my D800, but until then, here are some stills:

BattleReel Commercial

This passed Sunday, I spent a full day participating in this commercial for Battle Reels. It was a long day but it was pretty fun I must say to be an "actor" for a day.  Anyhow, the video debuts this Friday at the Digi60 Seconds Spring Screening. When I wasn't infront of the camera, I managed to document a few shots from the day, and the camera got passed around and even used as a prop...so I got some pretty interesting photos. Anyhow here were some of my favourites out of that camera that day. For more photos check out my Facebook Page. Sweet Thing @ Algonquin College

I find out very last minute that Sweet Thing was playing at the Observatory in Algonquin College this pass Thursday.  As a friend and fan to the band, I decided to go support them and take some photos. Heidi is a real big fan, so she was really excited. I was just warming up and had barely snapped any photos, when I was approached by the organizer to immediately stop taking pictures with my "fancy" camera. He said it was the bar manager's rule and despite trying to play my “friend of the headline band” plee, he would have none of it. No pictures after the third song! But point and shoots and cell phones were ok though! What the hell kind of rule is this? What kind of moron thinks of this stuff? Basically the rule according to me is no more good photos after three songs --just blurry ones from your iphone 4 is ok! Anyhow, there was nothing I could do but continue shooting with my iphone, which was useless cause it was way too dark! I hate Algonquin College. Oh right, there would have been an encore set if the Observatory didn't immediately started playing music so that people would stop clapping and leave. Pathetic. ottawa concert photography, sweetthing, ottawa portraits

Operation Come Home

Today, I met up with Eric Bollman to document the beginnng of his 24 hour day living as if he was homeless. You may know him as Eric the Intern from the Doc and Woody show on CHEZ 106. This will be the seventh year Eric has participated in this fundraiser to raise awareness to prevent homeless youths from becoming homeless adults. I also got a chance to meet some of the other participants to help raise awareness, including some of the volunteers at Operation Come Home. This fundraiser started at 4pm and will end tomorrow at 4pm, so please go support them by walking by in the Byward Market in front of Highlander Pub. operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer DSC_1990 operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer operation come home, ottawa portraits, eric the intern, ottawa volunteer

KOSMOGRAD

I have been delaying this post for a very long time, but since they have a show coming up I figured it was time to do it.  I played a show with Kosmograd last summer at a house party at Flora street. They ROCKed!  It was hot as hell that day and everyone was stuffed in this tiny basement sharing blood and sweat. It was a real good time despite this faulty staircase that caused many to fall including my friend Kevin and his poor back. Their next show is January 27 at Bovine Sex Club in Toronto. Check out their music from the link! ottawa portraits, ottawa concert photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa concert photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa concert photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa concert photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa concert photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa concert photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa concert photographer, ottawa music photographer

Rev. Ernie Cox Band & Choir

I was invited by the Cox family to photograph one of the concert nights at the NAC Studio Hall. It was some amazing gospel music but terrible terrible lighting for photographers. The 15-voice choir featured the London Trio Plus and local and legendary blues/jazz singer Andrea Karam.  The horn section was lead by saxophone musician Michael Webster from New York City.  Even though it was not my style of music, I thoroughly enjoyed the music that night and was clapping along even with my camera. Reverend Ernie Cox is a very talented musician and more information and samples of his music can be found on his website. ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer ottawa portraits, ottawa event photographer, ottawa music photographer
